A Guiding Hand for Families in NICU and Special Care Nurseries - Digital - Book - Page 41
Your baby and you
The love and care
you provide as a
parent makes a huge
difference to your
baby’s health and
development.
Your Nursery Experience
Everyone’s experience in hospital is different. Try not to
compare your baby’s progress with others and focus on every
positive step your baby takes towards going home.
There will be babies in the NICU and then others who will only require
care in the SCN. There may be mothers present who have had a difficult
pregnancy or delivery who are recovering from this experience. Regardless
of your baby’s gestation, weight or length of stay in hospital, all parents’
feelings and emotions are normal and do not need justification.
Getting to know your baby and being involved in their care
Life’s Little Treasures Foundation believes that providing information
and education to parents is key to ensuring the best outcomes for
premature and sick babies and, most importantly, enables families to
become their child’s advocate.
