Your baby and you
timing where it feels or looks like it happened around the same time. Make
sure you talk to your team so you can understand what happened and why.
Providing skin-to-skin contact to your baby is some of the best medicine you
(and only you) can provide in the NICU or SCN.
Hygiene and Infection control
Germs normally found on the skin cause few
problems but in a neonatal unit there are extra
steps that can be taken to protect your baby.
These include:
• Washing your hands regularly and asking
visitors to the do the same
• Disinfecting your phone and other items you
bring into the unit and touch regularly.
• Asking all family and friends to only visit if they
are well and fully recovered from illness.
By ensuring you carefully follow the infection control information
guidelines in your hospital, you will be helping to keep germs away and
your baby safe.
