Going home
Medical staff may request you to:
• Limit visitors to your home and people who
touch your baby
• Avoid taking your baby to crowded places such as
shopping centres, supermarkets and parties
If you do have visitors:
• Make sure they wash their hands before touching the baby
• Make sure they aren’t sick or been exposed to someone
who is unwell recently
Download ‘Protect
Me Cards’ for your
baby’s pram or
nursery from
our website
• Tell them they can’t smoke in your house or near your baby
Life’s Little Treasures Foundation has a set of downloadable cards that
you can use to remind your visitors available from our website at
www.lifeslittletreasures.org.au
If your baby is unwell
If your baby is unwell or is showing any of the following symptoms:
• A high temperature
• Trouble breathing or is hard to wake
• Blood in their vomit or stool
• Yellowish skin or eyes
• Is not feeding regularly or has fewer wet and dirty nappies
• Is having a seizure or is floppy
Call an ambulance straight away on 000
It is not advisable to put baby in your car and drive to the hospital yourself
in case your baby needs your assistance on the journey. The paramedics will
assess your baby and advise you of the best course of action. Never think
that baby isn’t sick enough to call 000. They will tell you they’d rather you
call them than dismiss the severity of the symptoms. It’s their job and they
are there to help your little treasure who has been through so much already.
