Setbacks
The progress of your baby can sometimes feel slow. Parents often feel
frustrated when their baby takes time to gain weight or progress from tube
feeding to breast/bottle. It’s ok to feel disappointed. Remember that your
baby will progress in his/her own time and it’s important that baby stays in
hospital until he/she is strong enough to go home.
Setbacks may include:
• Moving back on to oxygen
• Progressing from tube to breast feeding/bottle feeding,
then having to go back to tube feeds
• Fluctuations in weight including your baby losing weight in the first couple
of days after birth
• Infections that may result in your baby going back on to antibiotics
for a few days
Getting there in their own time
Your precious treasure will get there in the end but they will do it in their
own time. All that wishful thinking and stressing won’t make things
happen any quicker for baby. The less stressed you are, the better the
outcome for yourself.
