If Your Baby is Unwell
If baby is unwell or is showing any of the following symptoms:
• Has a temperature
• Has trouble breathing or is hard to waken
• Has blood in their vomit or stool
• Has yellowish skin or eyes
• Is having a seizure
It is best to call an ambulance straight
away on 000
TIP:
If possible, try to stay with
the one pharmacist. Not only
will they form a relationship
with you and understand
baby’s needs better, it will also
make it much easier at the end
of the year if you only have to
go to one place to get your
end of year tax
statement.
It is not advisable to put baby in your car and drive
to the hospital yourself, in case your baby needs your
assistance on the journey. The paramedics will assess
your baby and advise you of the best course of action. Never think that
baby isn’t sick enough to call 000. They will tell you they’d rather you call
them than dismiss your concerns. It’s their job and they are there to help
your little treasure who has been through so much already.
You are never alone when you take your premature baby home. There is a
wealth of knowledge and support available to you. Your paediatrician or
GP can help you as can your maternal health nurse. Pharmacists are also a
good source of information.
